Parkcours: Turning a Parking Lot into a Playground

When winter hits Montréal, ParkCours hits back—hard.
Their secret? An indoor parking lot that transforms into a training ground every January and February, the coldest months of winter. That’s where this passionate group invited us last Sunday to experience firsthand how they keep the fire burning when the temperature drops.
Every Sunday morning from 6:00 to 8:30 AM, this parking lot becomes a haven for runners. “No Parking Allowed!” has become their rallying cry—a playful nod to their unique training space.
The real strength of ParkCours? Its inclusivity. You’ll see elite athletes working on their speed, an 83-year-old gentleman walking safely, or a new mom pushing a stroller far from the snow. Every newcomer is welcomed with a warm smile and a simple “Good morning, thanks for training with us”—a small ritual that makes all the difference.
“We’re like a bag of M&Ms,” says Marc. “Different flavours, different colours!” This diversity is what makes the club so special, growing by over 350 members in recent years.
“You know you’re part of the club when you spend two hours in a parking lot on a Sunday morning!” he jokes. It’s ironic—parking lots are usually places people try to leave as quickly as possible. But here at DIX30, where some see nothing but a vast stretch of concrete, ParkCours has created something unique. Every Sunday morning, an ordinary parking lot transforms into an extraordinary gathering place for dozens of determined runners.
As for the future? The club dreams of a longer track, dynamic lighting, and better speakers—always looking to enhance the experience for its growing community.
Long live ParkCours!
